I LIKE BEETHOVEN
Concept by Nona Ciobanu
Theatrical adaptation after “The Fever” by Wallace Shawn
The circle is the dominant motif in “I Like Beethoven”, recurring as the toilet seat metamorphosis continuously. With the same ingenuity that we admired in earlier shows, Nona Ciobanu injects complex meaning in this otherwise trivial object. In turn, the toilet seat becomes a book (“The Capital” by Karl Marx), the wings of angel, the gate to (failed) altruism or the mirror of introspection. These symbolic avatars become a flexible visual counterpart to the character’s turmoil.
