AS YOU LIKE IT

by William Shakespeare

All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances;

The show might very well be this year's revelation. A classic text is transposed into very original images by an exceptional team of actors. The acting is both energetic and refined and balanced, going beyond traditional constraints.

Reviews

The show has rhythm, imagination and first-rate humor. It is visually stunning (up to the point where one feels one is contemplating slides from the playwright's museum in Stratford-upon-Avon). The folk music- the granddaughter of minstrelsy-magnifies Jacques's melancholy. Even now and then, we come across textual interplay, sometimes connoting the presidential campaign. The tender and compassionate irony that Nona Ciobanu has for characters like Phoebe or the lad who is infatuated with her is a proof of her post-modern approach to theatre.

Teatrul Azi - lulian Baicus

With "As You Like It" the young Nona Ciobanu makes a triumphant comeback at the Mic Theatre. She is assisted by Iulian Baltatescu (set design, lights and music) and Mihaela Ivanonv (costumes). Their imaginative and poetic show proves a remarkable visual coherence. Its gracefulness is a generous response to the playful spirit of Shakespeare's theatre. The actors are enjoying themselves on stage, thus achieving self-confidence. Nona Ciobanu's theatrical discourse -exclamation and meditation- sets off the idea that the world viewed as a stage evolves from playfulness to self-actualization.

Express Magazin - Ion Parhon

The most remarkable quality of Nona Ciobanu's new show - in the attempt to read Shakespeare as clearly as possible without any meaningless - would be the profound creativity. Iulian Baltatescu's contribution as composer, set and light designer is essential to the success of this production.

Rampa - Alice Georgescu

In " As You Like It", we discover Nona Ciobanu's talent at its best, her creativity and imagination. She has an obvious penchant for lyrical comedy and the capacity to render it comprehensible. Even though the performance has its ups and downs one can grasp the elements of a very personal style, as it was also the case with "Love for Three Oranges". Nona Ciobanu's originality stems from her subtlety in devising the vision of a modern fairy-tale. Iulian Baltatescu is a very inspired set and light designer, having an acute sense for pictorial description. Whatever the analytic standpoint, the show is beautiful.

Curierul National Magazin - Valentin Silvestru

The show might very well be this year's revelation. A classic text is transposed into very original images by an exceptional team of actors. The acting is both energetic and refined balanced, going beyond traditional constraints.
